The Tufa Sacred Mountain Hat Pin Collection –

A technique first used by Navajo Silversmiths in the 1870s using a stone called Tufa that is made from compressed volcanic ash found on the Navajo reservation. Softer than sandstone, Tufa leaves a beautiful granular texture once the metal has cooled. Tufa casting is labor intensive and involves many steps that naturally create one of a kind pieces.
